EPT 879S - Leyland National

Picture
Whilst not strictly within the groups mainstay of East Midland vehicles having started life with United at Darlington in June 1978, EPT did have a second owner in Trent Buses who had by then moved head office to Langley Mill, Notts the former headquarters of the Midland General Omnibus Company.

543, as the vehicle was to become within the fleet was purchased along with many other secondhand Nationals during the 1990's at a time when mostother companies had decided to dispense with this now iconic vehicle.

Arriving in the United livery - post NBC - 543 was soon to recieve the Trent Buses colours of red, cream and black and associated branding however this was not to last as due to contract work with Derbyshire education the Unibus scheme colours were applied. During life with Trent Buses 543 was to lose the original 510 engine in favour of a more powerful and economical Daf varient which is still retained today.

After service with Trent Buses the vehicle passed onto Robin Hood Travel in Nottingham from which it passed into preservation. After much deliberation regarding the colour scheme to be used 543 finally adorned with the NBC United livery, fleet names and number - 3079.

Whilst outwardly the vehicle looks as it would have done in the late 1970's the interior now contains back to back seating and tables to accomodate forty diners and is used on location for the film and television industry.

Update - due to a lack of much needed paid work for the vehicle and after much consideration and deliberation the group decided to part company with 3079. Whilst every effort was made to sell the vehicle for continued preservation a buyer could not be found and so with heavy heart it was sold for scrap in September 2011 allowing funds to be directed towards more relevant projects to our group.
