MTV 755P - Leyland Leopard/Duple Dominant

Picture
MTV 755P duly arrived in 1976 and unusualy for the style of bodywork contained 53 bus seats. This combination of Leyland Leopard and Duple bodywork albeit with coach seats had been purchased the previous year for use on the park and ride services opperated by Nottingham City Transport. These earler vehicles being known as Lilac Leopards because of the colour which adorned them.

After a rather none eventful eight years service the city, 755 was ushered into Trent Bridge works for conversion into the 'Information and Publicity Exhibition Bus' for use by the City of Nottingham. This lasted until 1987 after which the vehicle passed onto the British School of Technology, Nottingham. Through sponsorship the vehicle was used by WISE (women into science and technology) and complete with computer equipment and generator visited chools and colleges on promotional work for the next four years.

By 2001 the bus had retired from this type of work and was converted again, this time into a camper van and as such attended 'Le Mans' on a number of occasions.

After purchase for preservation the task to restore to a former glory was unearthed. Whilst the outside contained the expected bumps and bangs attributed to almost thirty years of use (and in some cases abuse) the inside was another story. After several conversions many of the internal fittings had been removed and replacements had to be sourced however, the biggest obstacle was the floor. In an attempt to level this a concrete based compound had been applied which filled the seat rails making the fitting of a new set impossible. After many hours of chipping away the rails were finally cleared and seats could again adorn the saloon. The boot required an amount of panel beating to be of any use again but thankfully the chassis was and still is in good order.

After spraying in the original owners livery, applying the vinyls and brightwork, 755 was back to a state not witnessed for twenty years and is now an important member of the fleet.
