NNN 479W - Leyland AN68/Roe

Picture
During the early 1980's Nottingham City Transport placed orders with Northern Counties and East Lancs for the supply of double deck bodywork to several batches of Leyland Atlantean AN68's however, a combination of long delivery dates and a shortage of fleet vehicles, NCT decided to look elsewhere for a quick fix solution whilst the by now reduced orders were fulfilled. The bodymaker Roe of Leeds had suffered a cancellation from London Country for similar vehicles and so with the addition of the Nottingham style front bumper ten were purchased and entered the fleet in 1981 numbered 471-480.

After a rather none eventful working lofe with NCT, 471 and 479 passed onto Paul S Winson coaches for further service after which both were secured for preservation.

January 2008 witnessed 479 joining our fleet and work commenced immediately in returning the vehicle back to its days with NCT. After a few battle scars in the bodywork had been rectified, seats refurbished where required and windows sealed (several times - and at the time of writing still leak!) the paint was applied which echoed the livery carried in the late 1980's. MOT passed with no faults, decals added and 479 was ready for the Meadowhall rally in September 2008.

When purchased by the group, 479 carried seating for 80 however whilst outwardly the vehicle is resplendant in the green and cream of NCT the inside has been converted to a mobile dining bus for the film and television industry.
